Dear Younger Self

Last weekend during a workshop, I was asked to reflect about my childhood. Reason being is that a lot of our current beliefs stem from our childhood experiences.

It was an amazing exercise really. It helped me get to know myself more in the process. 😊

More so, it inspired me to write this post😁

Previously I wrote a letter to my #bestmeever future self. Now let me share with you what I would have told the 8-year old meπŸŒˆπŸ¦„

Dear 8-year old Myke,

How’s life buddy? I can see that you are starting to discover more about yourself as you grow older. I am so excited for you!

I heard you wanted to be a zoologist before and now your parents want you to be a doctor. Did I get it right that you also wanted to be a lawyer? Let me tell you this: don’t pressure yourself too much. Just enjoy your childhood journey first. Laugh. Play. Live.

You know why? Because you won’t be walking the same path ever. And if I may be honest about it, none of your initial ambitions will materialize. πŸ˜… Ooops, before you panic, let me assure you:

Really. You will grow up to be one fine young man who builds brands for a living, teaches on the side, runs several businesses while touching a lot of lives with your positivity. Oh, and you’ll be writing books! Sounds interesting? I don’t want to spoil the surprise though so I’ll let you figure it out as you age.

It’s ok to take a detour from your original dreams because you’ll end up somewhere far better, where you’re meant to be. 😊

Oh, also, don’t mind the people who teased you for being different. They just couldn’t take your fabulousness.πŸ˜‚ You don’t have to conform because you were born to stand out. Live your dreams, deary so that you won’t have any regret.

Don’t let anyone make you feel less of a person. Remember you are wanted, needed and loved for who and what you are.❀️

I know at times life can be so tough but hey, keep your head up high. Can you promise me one thing? As early as now, I want you to practice being grateful and positive. No matter how challenging it may be.πŸ™πŸ»

Trust me, the sooner you discover your #bestmeever self, the better

You will be unstoppable. πŸ’ͺ🏼😊

Before I forget, always put your family first and your true friends second. Through the years you will meet a lot of people and they will come into your life as a blessing or as a lesson. Show them true love anyway. At least you will grow in the process. ☝🏻 Oh, and put God at the center of all you do ok? When in doubt, pray. When happy, pray. When sad, pray. Just find time to talk to Him daily. He will help you through.🌈

I don’t want to keep you from doing what you love (I know at that age, playtime is LIFE), so I’d just like to end this letter with this reminder:

Someday, you’ll look back at this letter, and you will realize that all the hurt, all the pain that you’ve been through will make sense.

And you will be so grateful. ❀️

Because they gave you your wings so you can soar even higher. β€οΈπŸ™πŸ»πŸ˜Š

Trust the process, little Myke.

Now fly high once more.

Love,

36-year old Myke
